California Increases Paid Sick Leave to 5 Days

    October 12, 2023

As expected, Gov. Newson signed AB616 which increases paid sick leave from 3 days to 5 days effective Jan 1, 2024.

Paid Sick Leave was first enacted in 2014, creating protections for workers in California who need time off for illness, or when their family is sick. Now with an increase in protected days, employers will need to revisit their employee handbooks, policies, and processes to reflect this change.
